Our students rotate between all these activities to ensure they get an overall view of everything in the project.
Participation was open to any Petroc student, with no restrictions, regardless of what they were studying or any other criteria.
The only requirement was to bring their enthusiasm and commitment. Our core team includes students on Trade, T-level and A-level courses.
I am a team-level engineering student who dreams of being a pilot and an engineer in the Navy. Through this fantastic project, I have, and hope, to gain knowledge about aeroplanes flying and key skills involved with their construction.
Aside from college, I am also training to compete in the Olympics as a 10-meter air, pistol shooter, currently ranking 12th in the UK.
Whilst participating in the construction of this plane, I also hope to have the opportunity to gain my pilot’s Microlite license which would allow me to fly ever closer to my dream career in the future.
I am 18 years old and from Barnstaple, I’m currently studying engineering at Petroc College. I am looking to secure an apprenticeship as I work towards becoming an electronics engineer. I love engineering because of my curiosity about how anything and everything works.
The Build A Plane project is taking my interest because it is an opportunity for me to develop my skills and discover more about the aviation industry.
I am a second-year A-level student, studying maths, physics, chemistry and further maths. Hopefully, I’ll study aeronautics and astronautics at Southampton University later this September.
The Build-a-plane project has given me the opportunity to put theory into practice. I am looking forward to flying in the plane.
I am 16 years of age and currently studying a fabrication course. I heard about the Build-a-plane project a couple of weeks into the year.
It is a lot of fun to be on the course, mainly because of the amount of interest and knowledge the volunteers have to offer.
I am 17 years old, studying level 3 engineering. I am also a member of the RNLI, currently training to join the boat crew.
I hope to do an engineering apprenticeship.
I’m in the last year of an EAL Level 3 extended technical diploma in engineering technologies. In September I’m going to university to study Robotics.
The opportunity to join the build a plane project has been one for which I am grateful. It is a truly amazing experience.
I am on a Level 3 technical extended diploma in engineering. I aim to begin an apprenticeship in electrical engineering and, later, a bachelor’s degree in robotics engineering.
This project has taught me valuable skills in teamwork and the importance of communication and dedication.
